Is fear of conflict holding your Team back?

Is fear of conflict holding your Team back?

According to Patrick Lencioni in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team (watch the video below) “The higher you go up the management chain, the more you find people spending inordinate amounts of time and energy trying to avoid the types of passionate debates that are essential to any great team. It is ironic that so many people avoid conflict in the name of efficiency, because healthy conflict is actually a time saver.”

The type of conflict Patrick is referring to here is Productive Conflict where people focus on concepts and ideas rather than personality-based arguments but still engage with passion and energy to produce the best possible outcome in the shortest possible time.

How do you respond to conflict? It appears that the best way to manage conflict is to recognise our automatic thoughts and to circumvent destructive responses. Wiley’s new DiSC® Progam Productive Conflict refers to this as ‘reframing your thoughts’ so you can consciously choose a Productive Conflict response.

Everything DiSC® Productive Conflict is a new program we can now offer at Howardco.
